The new multipurpose Profoto B10X and B10X Plus are versatile, lightweight, and very portable off-camera lights designed to be used for both still and video applications.
Both of the new lights are very close in size and shape to their previous B10 and B10 Plus versions, with the B10X being the smaller and lighter of the two.
Thanks to their size, both lights are small enough to fit into a backpack for location shooting and easily fit on a camera tripod or stand. They can even be used as hand-held lights if you don’t have a stand or tripod with you.
The biggest changes from the previous versions come in terms of power and recycling time.
Profoto says the B10X and B10X Plus output 30% more continuous light (3250 Lumens) than the original B10 and B10 plus which output 2500 Lumens.
The B10X features a maximum power output of 250Ws, where as the B10X Plus offers 500Ws. Both lights also offer maximum light output of up to 10,000 Lux (with the OCF Magnum Reflector) and up to 1100 Lux without.
Colour temperature for both lights is adjustable from 3000-6500 K (+/- 500K) and the lights feature a dimming range of 100-10%.
Recycling speed has also been given a boost for both lights with the B10X featuring a recycling time of just 1.35s, (up to 35.2% faster than the original B10) and the B10X Plus at 2.0s (up to 20% faster than the original B10 Plus) respectively.
The Li-Ion battery provides up to 400 full power flashes or 65 minutes of full continuous light for the B10X and up to 200 full power flashes or 65 minutes of full continuous light for the B10X Plus.
Profoto says that the battery will recharge to full in less than 90 minutes.
Another new feature is the inclusion of AirX (Profoto’s Bluetooth technology) which is built-in to both lights.
AirX allows users to “unleash the full power” of both lights enabling features such as capture, edit and publish when shooting from your smartphone.
It also supports flash sync, remote control, TTL and high speed sync.
Both lights also feature easier to read graphics on the rear LCD screen and compatibility with all Profoto remotes and A series flashes and smart connectivity via the Profoto smartphone app.
Finally, as with most Profoto lights, you are able to use the B10X and B10X Plus with their OCF family of modifiers as well as 120 other light shaping tools in the Profoto range.
