The new DJI OM 8 arrives less than a year after the launch of its OM 7 and 7P predecessors, but this next-gen smartphone gimbal offers a couple of cool new features not seen before in the history of this groundbreaking series.
360° pan rotation
This is the biggest innovation and probably the most welcome addition to the gimbal’s overall feature set. The pan axis now supports unlimited 360-degree horizontal rotation, which gives you the ability to capture smooth panoramic shots from virtually any angle and obtain seamlessly professional-looking footage.
You can also tilt the pan axis forward to shoot from a lower level and gain an altogether different perspective. Combined with the Multifunctional Module (inherited from the OM 7), you’ll be able to automatically follow children, pets (animal tracking makes its debut on the OM 8) and similar subjects from their own unique eye level.
Apple DockKit support
In another first for the series, the OM 8 now natively supports DockKit, Apple’s subject-tracking technology for iPhone users, allowing the stabilizer to track and follow subjects autonomously with a direct phone connection while using a variety of camera apps.

Fortunately, DJI has opted not to fix what wasn’t broken, which includes its robust 3-axis gimbal stabilization performance and precise ActiveTrack 7.0 subject-tracking tech to ensure continuous footage capture even when your subject steps briefly out of the frame.
You’ve still got the built-in tripod and extension rod, as well as the magnetic quick-release phone clamp. Intelligent features include Timelapse, Hyperlapse and Motionlapse, three panorama modes, DynamicZoom and One-Tap editing.
Also still thankfully intact: that slate of convenient gesture controls that literally put command of the gimbal in the palm of your hand.
