Tamron has just introduced the 25-200mm f/2.8-5.6 Di III VXD G2 lens for E mount, but perhaps it would be more accurate to say “reintroduced.”
“Evolved” and “reborn” are the words Tamron is using to describe this second-generation version of a much-loved and highly popular all-in-one-zoom, the original 28-200mm f/2.8-5.6 Di III RXD lens launched five years ago, also for E mount.
Tamron is known as an innovative pioneer in the realm of all-in-one zooms, including the 35-150mm f/2-2.8 Di III VXD, 28-75mm f/2.8 G2 and 28-300mm f/4-7.1 Di III VC VXD lenses released in recent years.
The 28-200mm in particular held (and still holds) a special place in the hearts of many, garnering praise throughout the years for its portability, performance and price tag, but the newer 25-200mm f/2.8-5.6 Di III VXD G2 lens broadens its appeal visibly in a few notable ways.
The first thing you’ll probably observe is the extended 25mm focal length at the wide end. The second is likely the VXD mechanism replacing the RXD.
While preserving the 200mm focal length of the original at the tele end, the newer lens also offers a boosted maximum magnification ratio of 1:1.9 at the wide end, allowing for decent half-macro shooting.

The VXD (which stands for Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) linear motor focus mechanism delivers noticeably faster and more precise autofocus power than that of its predecessor.
Tamron has retained the relatively lightweight and compact form factor that contributed to the popularity of this model while updating the ergonomic design in synch with similar second-generation zooms in the lineup, including smoother zoom and focus rings.
