With the launch of its new NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S II standard zoom, Nikon has raised the bar high. Boasting an unprecedented feature set, this lens creates a brand new benchmark.
The original NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S had already proved itself to be a workhorse of a lens and a hard act to follow. But known for its innovative and often groundbreaking zoom technology, Nikon has upped the ante with ease. Here are few of the new lens’s standout features.
The NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S II racks up a series of notable firsts, including being the first such lens in its class to feature an internal zoom mechanism. As a result, this mechanism delivers a noticeable boost in its zooming stability as well as overall dust- and drip-resistant performance.
At roughly 675g, it’s also the lightest in its class – both shorter and lighter than its predecessor, too.
The lens features Silky Swift VCM (SSVCM) AF technology for the first time in a zoom lens, allowing it to achieve the fastest AF performance in Nikon history, with extremely precise and quiet AF control to boot. Autofocus is now roughly five times faster than that of its older sibling, with AF tracking enhanced by approximately 60%.

Nikon’s S-Line of NIKKOR Z lenses is known for delivering the highest level of optical performance, with superior resolution, edge-to-edge sharpness and excellent control over aberrations and flare. In another first, this lens employs the Meso Amorphous Coat to offer the best anti-reflection performance in Nikon history.
You’ll find fewer elements in the new lens – 14 in total vs. 17 – but their arrangement within the barrel is designed to optimize resolution, not to mention create a shorter minimum focus distance: 0.24m at the wide-angle end and 0.33m at the telephoto end.
With its latest offering, Nikon aims to usher in a new generation of fast standard zooms for anyone seeking superb performance in both still image and video capture, even in challenging shooting conditions and environments.
