Tamron 17-50mm f/4 E-Mount lens in development

Hot on the heals of the launch of the 35-150mm f/2-2.8 Di III VC VXD Lens for Z Mount, Tamron has announced the development of the 17-50mm f/4 Di III VXD (Model A068), wide-angle zoom lens for Sony E-mount full-frame mirrorless cameras.

The lens boasts a zoom range from an ultra-wide 17mm to 50mm, which Tamron says will be the “world’s first with such a dynamic zoom range for full-frame mirrorless cameras” and a constant f/4 aperture covering the entire zoom range.

A VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) linear motor focus mechanism will offer “superior quietness and agile performance in addition to high-speed and high-precision autofocus without changing the physical length of the lens, making it well-suited for using on a gimbal.

The lens will feature a MOD (Minimum Object Distance) of 0.19m (7.5in) at the wide end and 0.3m (11.8in) at the tele end.

Tamron states that this will be an ideal “walk around” lens, offering great portability and convenience, making it suitable for shooting a variety of content, be it stills or video, without having to change lenses.
