Sony ZV-1 Mark II: Sony’s Newest Vlogging Camera

Sony has announced the ZV-1 Mark II, the next generation of their original ZV-1 vlogging camera, featuring a much wider 18-50mm lens and other upgraded features that will appeal to most video content creators.

The ZV-1 Mark II is a fixed lens, video centric compact camera that utilizes a 20.1MP Type 1 sensor, Sony’s latest BIONZ X image processing engine, and a new ZEISS 18-50 mm f/1.8-4 equivalent lens.

With a focal length of 18-50 mm, the new lens offers a wider view than the 24-70mm lens found on the original, which allows content creators to compose and capture footage over a wider area.

In terms of video, the ZV-1 II can capture 4K/30p video and Full HD video at up to 120p frame rates. It also includes Sony’s Slow & Quick video mode, allowing users to quickly choose from up to 5x slow or up to 60x fast-motion video recording.

The ZV-1 II also has several pre-set looks including, My Image Style, Creative Look as well as a Cinematic Vlog setting which activates specific settings in order to achieve a cinematic look, including a 2.35:1 cinema scope aspect ratio and 24p (23.98p) frame rate.

The “Creative Look” pre-set works for both stills and video and offers ten “Creative Look” options with up to eight selectable parameters each. The “My Image Style” allows users to apply their own visual preference settings to both stills and videos.

There is also a Bokeh switch and Product Showcase Setting that automatically adjusts various camera settings for specific use cases.

It has fast precise phase-detection autofocus with Multiple Face Recognition, Real-time Tracking AF, and Real-time Eye AF for human and animals as well as Face Priority Auto Exposure, which sets exposure to ensure that a tracked face always looks as good as possible.

The camera also boasts electronic image stabilization to keep footage smooth and steady when shooting handheld, even while walking, and a built-in ND filter that can reduce exposure levels by up to 3-stops.

On the outside, the large, 3″ vari-angle touchscreen features a redesigned monitor display that shows a bold, clearly visible red frame to make it more obvious when recording is in progress.

It also includes a high-quality, intelligent three-directional mic with a supplied windscreen, a mic input (for external microphones) and headphone output and Micro HDMI and USB-C ports.

Finally, the ZV-1 II can also be paired with Sony’s optional GPVPT2BT Wireless Shooting grip with Tripod for even greater flexibility.
