Sigma Art 50mm f/1.4 DG DN lens for Sony E and Leica L mount cameras

The Sigma Art 50mm f/1.4 DG DN lens balances size, weight and autofocus with pro-level optical performance and is also the first Art line lens to adopt the “HLA” linear motor (High-response Linear Actuator).

Designed for full-frame Sony E mount and Leica L-mount mirrorless cameras, it features a large, bright f/1.4 aperture that is perfect for creating the beautiful bokeh effect.

The lens includes 14 elements in 11 groups, with 3 aspherical lenses and 1 SLD glass element that work together to effectively suppresses various aberrations such as astigmatism and field curvature.

Sigma says that despite the large aperture of f/1.4, the lens has outstanding edge to edge imaging performance thanks to it’s new optical layout that has been optimized for the short flange distance found on mirrorless cameras.

Furthermore, Sigma also says that the image formation performance on the periphery of the image has been pursued and that sagittal coma flare has been minimized to the extent that the lens can withstand even challenging star and night scenes, with demanding point light source imaging, from wide open.

As mentioned previously, the lens is the first in the Art line utilize the “HLA” linear motor (High-response Linear Actuator) that was first introduced with the 60-600mm DG DN OS sports lens and utilizes a single double-sided aspheric lens as the focus lens, offering fast and quiet focusing and high tracking performance.

On the lens barrel itself, there is a Focus Mode switch, an Aperture ring click switch that can turn the click on and off, an Aperture ring lock switch to prevent users from accidentally switching the setting, and a customizable AFL button used to assign any function from the camera.

The lens also features a dust and splash resistant structure, with the front element of the lens having a water and oil repellent coating applied.
