Nikon Z 50 – DX Format Z Series Mirrorless Camera

The Nikon Z 50 is the first DX-format (mirrorless) camera in Nikon’s Z Series camera lineup to utilize the larger 16mm Z-mount flange focal focal distance which until now, was only available on the more expensive full-frame Z 6 and Z 7 mirrorless cameras.

Nikon Z 50

The compact and lightweight Nikon Z 50 features a 20.9-megapixel DX-format CMOS sensor backed by Nikon’s latest EXPEED 6 image-processing engine and a native ISO of up to 51200 (the highest of its class).

The Z 50’s 209-point Hybrid AF system covers approximately 87% of the frame horizontally and 85% vertically.

It’s also the first DX-format camera to utilize Eye-Detection AF and features incredibly fast continuous shooting speeds of up to 11fps (with AF/AE).

For selfie lovers and vloggers, the 3.2-inch LCD flip-down touchscreen provides access to all the necessary soft keys and icons.

Z 50 Video Capabilities

The Z 50 features 4K video, 120p slow-motion and time-lapse capabilities, the last by utilizing a built in intervalometer.

In-camera video trimming, 20 creative picture controls, special effects and scene modes (automatically adjusts settings to optimize performance for beginners) are also available.

Lastly, the Z 50 also incorporates additional built-in stabilization when shooting Full HD or 4K video.

Z Series DX Lenses

Nikon also announced the first two Z DX lenses, the Z DX 16-50mm f/3.5-6.3 VR and the Z DX 50-250mm f/4.5-6.3 VR.

Both lenses feature the Z mount’s 16mm flange focal distance, reduced focus breathing, a customizable control ring and built-in optical Vibration Reduction (VR) that offers up to 4.5 stops and 5.0 stops of compensation respectively.
