The versatile Fujifilm X-T30 will appeal to photographers of all skill levels and with it’s compact size, and improved video features, including 4K, it will be a viable option for vloggers and video content creators as well.
X-T30 Main Features
The X-T30 might be the successor to the popular X-T20 mirrorless camera, but it also shares some common features and specs with it’s more expensive cousin, the X-T3.
Under the hood, the X-T30 features a 4th generation, 26.1 megapixel X-Trans CMOS 4 sensor offering a slight increase over the 24.3 megapixel sensor found on the X-T20.
It also takes full advantage of an upgraded X-Processor 4 Quad Core CPU greatly improving auto-focus and face detection speeds as well as offering continuous shooting speeds of up to 30fps (at 1.25x crop), 20fps (without crop using EVF) and 8fps (with mechanical shutter).
The 100% phase-detect hybrid AF system covers the entire frame and expands the low-light limit from +0.5EV to -3EV improving auto-focusing capabilities over a wider range of lighting conditions.
ISO has also been improved, with the X-T30 now offering a regular ISO range of 160-12800, expandable to 80-51200.
Previously, ISO 160 was only available as an extended ISO feature.
Looking at the back of the camera, there is now a focus lever placed next to the 2-way tilting Touch LCD screen allowing you to quickly shift the focus point without taking your eye away from the EVF.
The lever also activates the Advanced SR Auto mode which allows photographers to select from 58 different scene preset options.
Once selected, the camera then automatically examines the scene and selects the optimum settings for both autofocus and exposure.
Face and Eye-Detection AF is also controllable using either the touchscreen panel or Focus Lever in both still and video modes.
The X-T30 also lets you take advantage of Fujifilm’s extensive list of film simulations and effects including Provia, Classic Chrome and Eterna giving you even more creative control whether you’re capturing stills or video.
Video Features
As mentioned, the X-T30 offers 4K video (captured at 6K and down-sampled) recording at 30 frames per second or 1080p HD at 120 fps allowing for super slow motion effects.
If you like to shoot using an external recorder, F-Log, 10-bit, 4:2:2 high fidelity colour capture is also possible via the camera’s HDMI port.
Finally, industry standard, 4K DCI (17:9) is also supported if you are looking to create a more cinematic feel for your final output.
If you’re looking to upgrade from the X-T20 or just looking for something new, the Fujifilm X-T30 will retail in Canada for around $1199.99 (body only), or $1699.99 as a kit with a XF 18-55mm lens f/2.8-4.0 R LM OIS lens.
You’ll also have three different colour options to choose from, as it comes in black, silver or silver graphite.
