With the launch of its new Pro Tripod line, Peak Design is aiming to please serious professionals who shoot both stills and video, as well as semi-professionals looking for a travel-friendly leg-up.

The Tripod Pro head lets you switch between photo and video applications instantly and seamlessly.

Developed in collaboration with celebrated photographer/filmmaker Jimmy Chin, the new lineup is based on the company’s original and hugely popular Travel Tripod series. This is essentially a scaled-up version, combining pro-level performance with optimum portability and picking up where the former left off.

As is the case with most every Peak Design product, these new tripods are designed not just with ease of use top of mind but also with the pleasure of the user experience front and centre. Every detail is meticulously engineered and crafted to deliver intuitive and consistent operation.

Key features and updates include a redesigned Arca-compatible camera quick-lock grip, stronger legs, a fully CNC-machined hub, plus a flanged centre column and upgraded cinch ring for added stability.

Along with the new tripod, this launch includes a slate of additional available products, which are sold separately.

First, you’ve got the Tilt Mod ball head video adapter, which converts the Pro Tripod ball head into a fluid pan/tilt head that lets you capture super-smooth pro-quality video. And second, there’s the Pro levelling base, which makes levelling a snap on uneven terrain without the need to adjust the tripod’s legs.

There’s also a handy set of spiked feet that can be affixed for added traction and stability on ice, smooth rocks and loose dirt or gravel.

The Pro Tripod is available in three sizes – Pro, Pro Lite and Pro Tall – each targeted to different uses and users. Here’s how the dimensions differ when packed, collapsed and extended:

    Pro
This is considered the standard model, with size, stiffness and weight optimized for the broadest range of uses.

    • Packed: 50cm
    • Collapsed: 50.1cm
    • Maximum height, centre column raised: 168.4cm
    • Maximum height, centre column down: 138cm
    • Weight: 1.9kg

    Pro Lite
This is a slightly scaled-down version for users seeking a bit more packability, but it’s still larger than the original Travel Tripod.

    • Packed: 48.3cm
    • Collapsed: 48.8cm
    • Maximum height, centre column raised: 162.5cm
    • Maximum height, centre column down: 133.2cm
    • Weight: 1.9kg

    Pro Tall
This one features elongated legs for a taller deployed height. It’s designed for users taller in height or those who want maximum stability with heavier rigs.

    • Collapsed: 58.1cm
    • Maximum height, centre column raised: 197.4cm
