Nikon Z 28-75mm f/2.8 and Z 800mm f/6.3 VR S lenses announced

Nikon has announced a new lens and the development of another for their mirrorless Z Series cameras, the NIKKOR Z 28-75mm f/2.8 and the in-development NIKKOR Z 800mm f/6.3 VR S.

The NIKKOR Z 28-75mm f/2.8 is an affordable full-frame medium zoom lens offering a constant f/2.8 aperture producing gorgeous, softly blurred backgrounds and offering excellent low light capability perfect for portraiture and landscapes.

The lens itself weighs only 565g (1.2lbs), making it incredibly easy to pack, carry casually or wield for an all-day event.

There is also a control ring for customization (manual focus, ISO sensitivity and aperture/exposure compensation) and the lens produces minimal focus breathing and near-silent operation making it perfect for video applications.

It also features 15 lens elements in 12 groups, with one extra-low dispersion (ED) element, one super extra-low dispersion element, and three aspherical elements and a 67mm front element

The maximum angle of view is 75-degrees to 32-degrees, a maximum reproduction ratio of 0.34x and a nine-bladed rounded aperture diaphragm that has a range of f/2.8 through f/22.

Minimum focusing distance is 0.19 meters (about 0.62ft) at the wide end.

One thing the lens doesn’t feature is image stabilization, relying instead on the IBIS system of the camera it is mounted on.

• With the control ring, users can focus manually or change ISO sensitivity, aperture and exposure compensation in stills and video. The smooth rotation enables precise focus control. The knurling employed improves operation.

Development of the NIKKOR Z 800mm f/6.3 VR S

Nikon also announced the development of the NIKKOR Z 800mm f/6.3 VR S, a super-telephoto prime lens for full-frame (Nikon FX-format) Nikon Z mirrorless cameras such as the Z 5, Z 6 / Z 6II, Z 7 / Z 7II and Z 9.

The NIKKOR Z 800mm f/6.3 VR S will be an S-Line lens, which Nikon says will deliver powerful rendering with outstanding resolution while thoroughly reducing colour bleeding.

It will also adopt a PF (Phase Fresnel) lens that enables a compact and lightweight body, making it highly portable despite being a super-telephoto lens.

Nikon also says that due to its high rendering performance and superb mobility, the upcoming lens will make an excellent choice for many types of photographers ranging from advanced amateurs to professionals.
