Nikon developing NIKKOR Z 85mm f/1.2 S & NIKKOR Z 26mm f/2.8 lenses

Nikon has announced the development of two new Z Series full-frame lenses, the NIKKOR Z 85mm f/1.2 S, a fast mid-telephoto prime lens, and the NIKKOR Z 26mm f/2.8, a slim wide-angle prime lens.

According to Nikon’s press release, the Z 85mm f/1.2 S (part of the NIKKOR Z S-Line of lenses), will offer “both superior rendering performance and large, beautiful bokeh, expanding the possibilities for photographers capturing portraits in areas such as weddings and fashion”.

If you aren’t familiar, the S-Line is a higher grade of NIKKOR Z lenses that Nikon says “demonstrate outstanding optical performance, adhering to a high standard of design principles and quality control”.

The much slimmer, “pancake style” (not a term Nikon uses or promotes) the Z 26mm f/2.8 lens will offer “outstanding slimness and lightness, as well as high rendering performance”. which, according to Nikon make it “an ideal lens for advanced amateur photographers who take their camera everywhere so as not to miss a moment”.

Both lenses are designed for Nikon’s Z Series full-frame (FX-format) mirrorless cameras, although they will work with any Nikon Z mount camera (with cropping on DX-format cameras) and should be welcome additions to the ever expanding line-up of NIKKOR Z lenses.

As of the time of post, Nikon has not provided any information about a launch date or pricing for either lens.
