Sharing a similar design concept to the Z 50mm f/1.2 S and the Z 85mm f/1.2 S lenses, the 35mm f/1.2 S offers superior rendering capabilities that help to emphasize the main subjects with soft and beautiful bokeh, as well as  offering a dramatic shallow depth-of-field and a realistic expression of textures along the focal plane.

The lens allows soft, delicate organic textures such as skin and hair to be captured with a natural authenticity, while reflective objects like jewelry are sharp and free of distracting colour aberrations.

The multi-focusing system uses stepping motors (STMs) allowing for fast and accurate AF drive when capturing both still images and video.

For cinematographers, the lens has also been optimized for video, including features such as a clickless control ring, silent focusing and stable exposure, as well as suppressed focus breathing that effectively reduces shifts to the angle of view when focusing.

The two conveniently placed L-Fn buttons, located on the top and side of the lens, allow for a wide variety of functions to be assigned.
