With the launch of its new 16-50mm f/2.8 A, Tamron has delivered what it aptly calls “your essential go-to zoom.”

Spanning a practical focal range from wide-angle to mid-telephoto, this competent new lens will be available in Sony E-mount and Canon RF-mount in October, followed by Nikon Z-mount and Fujifilm X-mount later this year.
Designed specifically for APS-C sensors, the lens offers a 24mm-equivalent focal length (on Sony, Fujifilm and Nikon) at the wide end to cover everything from tight interiors to broader landscapes (that translates to 25mm on Canon).
Although decidedly compact across the board, there are also minor variations in the weight and size across the different mount versions: 305g and roughly 79.6mm for Sony E and Fujifilm X; 305g and 77.6mm for Canon RF; 315g and 81.6mm for Nikon Z.

Despite their differences, what they share is more important, including Tamron’s proprietary Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive (VXD) linear motor known for its ability to deliver dependably fast and quiet autofocus performance.
And with a constant f/2.8 aperture throughout the zoom range, you can capture images with nice soft bokeh, including at faster shutter speeds in challenging low-light situations.
These new lenses also incorporate Tamron’s new “Toned Profile Next” lens design that combines a sleek sophisticated look with rugged functionality.
Aiming to make this the perfect “always-on” lens that stays mounted to your camera for everyday use, they’ve even introduced a newly designed front cap that features dedicated strap holes on both sides to keep it safe and secure on your daily travels.
