Tamron unveils new 70-300mm telephoto for Sony E-Mount

70-300mm f/4.5-6.3 Di III RXD

Dubbed the “world’s smallest and lightest telephoto zoom lens for Sony E-mount full-frame mirrorless cameras”, the new Tamron 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3 Di III RXD zoom lens, is also their first designed specifically for a full-frame mirrorless camera.

Physically, the lens is fully weather sealed, measures 148mm (5.8 in) in length and tips the scales at a mere 545g (19.2 oz). It also features Tamron’s BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) Coating offering exceptional anti-reflection properties and excellent edge to edge resolution, especially when shooting at 300mm.

The lens also shares the same uniform 67mm filter diameter as found on Tarmon’s other full-frame mirrorless camera lenses.

On the inside, there are 15 elements in 10 groups, including a Low Dispersion (LD) element that according to Tamron, has been “precisely arranged to suppress axial chromatic and other aberrations that are likely to happen with telephoto zoom lenses”.

The autofocus system features an exceptionally quiet, RXD (Rapid eXtra-silent stepping Drive) motor and is compatible with many of the features found on Sony cameras including, IBIS (In-Body Image Stabilization) and Eye AF.
