This morning, Nikon announced the AF-S 105mm f/1.4E ED lens and it’s gotten people pretty excited.

Priced at $2699.00, and billed as the “world’s first full-frame* 105mm f/1.4 lens” the just announced AF-S 105mm f/1.4E ED is aimed at professional or advanced enthusiast portraiture photographers.

*Among AF lenses for digital SLRs compatible with FX-format image sensor; as of July 27, 2016; statement based on Nikon research

A premium lens for the most discerning photographers and engineered to help create flattering images with gorgeous bokeh while delivering impressive sharpness and beautiful colour rendition”.

Suitable for in-studio or location shoots, the AF-S 105mm f/1.4E ED offers photographers, precise sharpness with outstanding bokeh and superb low-light capabilities due to its huge maximum aperture.

af-s 105mm f/1.4EThanks to Nikon’s electromagnetic aperture control technology the AF-S 105mm will provide shooters with consistent exposures, even during those moments of high-speed continuous shooting.

Solidly built and well-balanced, the AF-S 105mm is weather sealed against dust & moisture and the front and rear elements have been treated with additional Fluorine coatings making it easier to remove smudges, dirt and moisture.

Inside the lens, there are 14 elements in nine groups, including three ED glass elements, and the nine-blade diaphragm will create a beautiful bokeh behind the subject.

It also features Nikon’s Nano Crystal Coat technology which significantly reduce instances of ghosting and flare and is available in their Gold Ring series of lenses.
