Already a pioneer in the development of unique large-aperture lenses, Sigma just launched the world’s first full-frame zoom with a constant maximum aperture of f/1.8. And the icing on the cake? In addition to all that unprecedented brightness, the new 28-45mm DG DN Art lens also delivers a level of sharpness and clarity comparable to that of a prime lens.

An inner zoom mechanism keeps the overall length constant when adjusting focal length or focus distance.

Full-frame camera photographers can now enjoy the flexibility of using a highly capable zoom combined with generous handheld and low-light shooting capacity – and with the benefit of beautiful bokeh, to boot. This welcome breakthrough has been made possible by Sigma’s decades of industry-leading optical design innovation at the company’s production base in Aizu, Japan.

The lens’s inner zoom mechanism ensures that the overall length of the lens remains unchanged when adjusting focal length or focus distance, which also contributes to superior handheld ease of use and added stability when the camera is mounted on a tripod or gimbal. This mechanism also makes the lens more resistant to dust and water contamination.

With a constant minimum focusing distance of 30cm across the entire zoom range and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:4 at the telephoto end, this lens also offers excellent close-up shooting capabilities and allows for precision focusing when shooting in confined spaces.

Although not technically waterproof, the Sigma 28-45mm f/1.8 DG DN Art lens is ruggedly built to withstand the elements, with a dust- and splash-resistant body, and a front lens surface coated with a water- and oil-repellent coating, so you can feel comfortable using it in harsh outdoor environments.

You might expect such a fast zoom to be quite heavy, but weighing in at less than 1kg, the lens is highly portable and makes a nice light choice for handheld shooting. The barrel sports a handy declickable aperture ring and AFL buttons, and for those shooting video, rest assured: it also features helpful focus-breathing suppression.
