GoPro Hero11 Black & Hero11 Black Mini Cameras Announced

GoPro, the company that basically invented action cameras, has announced two new cameras, the Hero11 Black, Hero11 Black Mini as well as a Creators Edition for the Hero11 Black that includes additional accessories.

On the outside, the Hero11 Black looks basically the same as previous versions, keeping both front and rear screens, power and mode buttons and USB charging port.

The more streamlined Mini version however, drops both front and back screens and separate button design, going with a single button and tiny LCD screen that shows battery life, recording status, etc. on the top of the camera instead.

Also, the Hero11 Black uses a removeable 1720mAh Enduro battery, whereas the Mini version uses an integrated 1500mAh Enduro battery.

Both versions feature a 27-megapixel sensor that can capture 10-bit colour video, a new ultra-wide “HyperView,” and boast full 360-degree horizon lock.

The Type 1/1.9 sensor is capable of delivering over a billion colours in 5.3K resolution at 60 frames per second with the newly added 10-Bit recording capability.

It also enables a new 8:7 aspect ratio for video, offering a vertical view larger than any other GoPro camera, which can also be cropped to fit different vertical aspect ratios including those favoured by Instagram and TikTok using GoPro’s Quik app.

Other new features found on both cameras include a new HyperView mode which offers a super-wide 16:9 aspect ratio field of view and HyperSmooth 5.0 stabilization technology with a 360° horizon lock feature to keep footage steady even when the camera is rotating.

There is also a new Night Lapse video feature offering three new night effects, Star Trails, Light Painting and Vehicle Light Trails.

TimeWarp 3.0 has been upgraded and is now capable of capturing up to 5.3K footage (previously 4K max) and you can record up to 8x slo-mo on both cameras.

Both cameras can also be used as webcams offering full HD 1080p live streaming capabilities.

There is also one thing missing from the Hero11 Mini and could be a deal breaker for some.

Whereas, the Hero11 Black offers the ability to capture 27-megapixel stills, and features different photo modes including SuperPhoto, HDR+RAW, 30fps burst mode and night photo mode, the Hero11 Mini doesn’t include ability to capture still images at all.

Finally, the GoPro HERO11 Black Creator Edition boasts all the same features as the Hero11 Black, but includes the Volta battery grip with built-in buttons that extends (in 4K resolution) recording time by up to four hours.

It also includes a 32GB SD card, the GoPro Light Mod + diffuser, GoPro Media Mod (external microphone) and extra battery.
