It’s finally happened! Fujifilm has announced the follow-up to the wildly popular X100V, the Fujifilm X100VI which brings significant improvements and other innovative features that easily make it as desirable as the previous version.
The Fujifilm X100VI is a compact, lightweight fixed lens camera that retains the signature rangefinder-style design and is packed with features that can give many of its larger counterparts a run for their money.
The limited edition features Fujifilm’s original 1934 corporate brand logo engraved on the both top and lens cap of the camera as well as an exclusive strap and Fujifilm history cards.
The exterior of the camera retains the same look and feel as the previous version, including the same upgraded 23mm f/2 mark II (equivalent to 35mm on full-frame sensor) lens.
Enhanced Image Quality
The X100VI sports a 40.2-megapixel X-Trans CMOS 5 HR sensor, that is a significant improvement when compared to the X100V’s 26.1-megapixel sensor.
Thanks to the upgraded X-Trans CMOS 5 HR sensor and X-Processor 5, the X100VI is capable of creating high-resolution images and videos up to 6.2K at 30 frames per second (fps).
Advanced Image Stabilization
Hybrid Viewfinder
As with previous versions, the X100VI offers a hybrid viewfinder, allowing users to toggle between the electronic viewfinder (EVF) and the optical viewfinder (OVF) depending on preference.
Additionally, a new OVF Image Display option allows an image to be viewed after it has been made, either at full screen or in the viewfinder’s corner.
Advanced Autofocus and Subject Detection
Film Simulation Modes
The X100VI comes with 20 built-in Fujifilm film simulation modes, including the new REALA ACE mode.
Pro Tip: If you aren’t familiar, these simulation modes digitally replicate the look of classic photographic films allowing users reproduce the classic colours and tones Fujifilm is renowned for.
Video Capabilities
Beyond still photography, the X100VI offers advanced video performance with the ability to create movies up to 6.2K internally at 30fps in 4:2:2 10-bit colour.
Additionally, 4K at 60fps and high-speed 1080p at 240fps recording options are also available, providing users with maximum video flexibility.
Battery and Memory Card
The X100VI features a UHS-1 SD card slot and utilizes the same battery as the X100V rather than upgrading to the bulkier (and longer-lasting) battery that other newer X-Series models use. This was done to keep the overall size of the camera as close to the previous model as possible.
Cloud Collaboration
Another new feature found on the X100VI is its native Frame.io Camera to Cloud technology.
This feature allows users to create, share, and collaborate on photos and videos instantly when connected to an active internet connection and authenticated to Frame.io.
Accessories
The X100VI supports a range of accessories that enhance its usability and performance, including the AR-X100 adapter ring and the PRF-49 protective filter that when mounted to the camera add an extra layer of weather resistance.
There are also dedicated Wide Conversion and Tele Conversion Lenses (sold separately) that multiply the fixed focal length by approximately 0.8x and 1.4x, respectively, without reducing image quality.
