Fujifilm has announced the analog-inspired, rangefinder style (similar to the X100VI, but with the additional flexibility of interchangeable lenses) X-E5 mirrorless camera, along with a new XF23mm f/2.8 lens.
Made with with content creators in mind, the X-E5 pairs Fujifilm’s latest 40.2-megapixel X-Trans 5 HR sensor and X-Processor 5 imaging engine with a digital teleconverter, offering up to seven stops of in-body image stabilization.
This combination offers additional functionality, including a lower base ISO of 125 as well as deep learning AI-powered subject detection AF across a broader range of subjects.
The higher resolution allows for the camera’s two-step digital teleconverter feature, which crops into the sensor to provide a 1.4x or 2x zoom.

In a first for X Series cameras, X-E5 features a customizable Film Simulation dial that is neatly placed under the aluminum top-plate.
The dial features a circular window providing an easy view of the active mode, as well as fast access to Fujifilm’s unique Film Simulation modes.
Additionally, the dial has three customizable settings, allowing users to create and save their own film recipes for instant recall in the field.
The electronic viewfinder offers more than a preview of the scene, as it includes some additional functions that deliver an experience similar to an optical viewfinder.
These functions include:
Three Surround View modes that allow for the selection of a black, semi-transparent or line outline showing the image’s aspect ratio as well as what is outside of it allowing users to better anticipate subjects moving into frame.
A Simple View option, which Fujifilm says emulates the viewfinder from an analog film SLR.
Finally, while the X-E5 shares a similar size and weight as well as aesthetic with the X100VI, it ultimately offers more flexibility thanks to the ability to switch out with one of the over 40 X-Mount lenses available.
