Fujifilm has announced a slew of new cameras and lenses including the GFX100S and GF80mm lens, and a new X-Series camera, the X-E4 and XF27mm and XF70-300mm lenses.
The Cameras
GFX100S Medium Format
The GFX100S is Fujifilm’s follow-up to their groundbreaking GFX100 medium format camera released back in 2019.
In terms of main features, the GFX100S is virtually identical to the to the GFX100.
Both cameras feature the X-Processor 4 quadcore CPU, 102MP, back-illuminated large format CMOS sensor, Pixel Shift Multi-Shot mode to create ultra-high resolution 400MP stills and ability to capture 4K/30p video footage in 10-bit F-log or 12-bit ProRes RAW.
So what’s new you ask?
Well, there’s a few things…
First off, it’s approximately 20% smaller and 10% lighter than the previous version, with about an inch taken off the height and a little over 1/2 a pound of weight removed.
To achieve this, Fujifilm has made some physical alterations namely, removing the built-in vertical grip, larger NP-T125 battery bay and the tilting EVF.
Instead, the GFX100s features a 3.69 million dots (approx) built-in EVF and utilizes the smaller NP-W235 Li-ion battery found on the X-T4 camera.
Due to the reduction in physical size, the GFX100S features a newly developed shutter capable of 5fps continuous shooting and In-Body Image Stabilization system that now works in conjunction with GF lens Optical Image Stabilization to provide up to 6 additional stops of correction with a compatible GF lens.
Fujifilm has also updated the autofocus algorithm with an improved focus time of as little as 0.16 seconds even in light levels as low as -5.5EV.
Video
The GFX100s captures 4K video up to 30 frames per second in 16:9 aspect ratio as well as 17:9 aspect ratio in either H.264 or H.265 codecs.
Footage can be recorded internally at bit rates of up to 400Mbps in 10-bit 4:2:0 F-log or output to an external recording device such as the Atomos Ninja V, via the camera’s HDMI port.
When using the Atomos Ninja V Monitor Recorder, the GFX100S can output 4Kp30 footage in either 10-bit 4:2:2 F-Log or 12-bit Apple ProRes RAW. It can also simultaneously output RAW footage and footage in F-Log or Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) with a Film Simulation mode applied.

It features a classic looking “rangefinder” style body with controls logically places on both the top and rear of the camera.
The rear LCD screen tilts up to 180 degrees upward and forward to accommodate a wide variety of compositions, from high to low angle, as well as selfies or vlog-style videos.
Utilizing phase-detection autofocus points covering almost 100% of the sensor the X-E4 is able to acquire focus in as fast as 0.02 seconds.
The X-E4 is also able to track moving subjects using it’s advanced AF-tracking algorithm, ensuring that images are captured when the focus is optimal.
Face and eye detection are also available, even in low light as dim as -7.0EV when paired with the Fujinon XF50 f/1.0 R WR lens.
In terms of video, the X-E4 is more than capable, shooting oversampled 6K footage to record 4K 30p 4:2:0 8-bit video internally or 4:2:2 10-bit via the HDMI out port. I can also capture Full HD footage at up to 240 fps.
