DJI unveils the new RS 5 gimbal

The new RS 5 gimbal stabilizer – a fifth-generation entry in DJI’s popular Ronin series – offers more than just a slate of serious updates to its immediate predecessor, the RS 4. It does that in spades, for sure, but some say it could even surpass the RS 4 Pro in terms of performance.

The DJI RS 5 gimbal stabilizer with the enhanced intelligent tracking module attached magnetically to its side
The tracking module snaps snugly onto the side of the RS 5 gimbal.

Among its most notable improvements, the RS 5 delivers smoother balancing thanks to fine-tuning knobs, direct control through a cool new briefcase handle, plus faster charging and extended battery life.

But the real scene stealer here is a new tracking module with touchscreen subject selection.

Snapping magnetically onto the gimbal, this module lets you frame and track any subject – whether that’s a person, vehicle or even a pet – from the gimbal’s touchscreen and keep it accurately positioned, no phone app or external monitor required.

When tracking a person, you’ve got a healthy 10m range in which to maneuver, and it can keep tabs on the subject even if they temporarily leave and re-enter the frame.

Also brand new and viewable on the display, the Z‑axis indicator delivers instant real-time feedback on vertical motion, allowing you to coordinate your footsteps in tandem for more professional-looking shots on the move.

The combo comes with additional accessories and a carry case.

The DJI RS Enhanced Intelligent Tracking Module is included as part of the RS 5 accessorized combo, by the way, and the Electronic Briefcase Handle – also included as part of the combo – is another clever innovation.

Featuring both a joystick and buttons, it lets you control the gimbal with convenient single‑handed operation and shoot footage from more creative angles.

With this new model, you’ve also got faster charging and a longer runtime: the RS 5 can be fully charged in just an hour – that’s a 60% increase in speed – and the battery delivers roughly 14 hours of standby time, which is a 15% improvement over the previous generation.

The DJI RS 5 comes with all the essential accessories, including battery grip, 30cm USB-C camera-control cable and more. In addition to the tracking module and briefcase handle, the more comprehensive combo kit also includes the abovementioned, plus an L-shaped 13cm USB-C cable and handy carrying case.
