Blackmagic announces Pocket Cinema Camera 6K G2

Blackmagic has announced the Pocket Cinema Camera 6K G2, featuring an adjustable touchscreen screen, a larger battery and support for the optional electronic viewfinder.

The Pocket Cinema Camera (PCC) 6K G2 also features Blackmagic generation 5 colour science as well as the cinematic Super 35 HDR image sensor with 13 stops of dynamic range, dual native ISO and EF lens mount from the previous model.

Made from lightweight carbon fiber polycarbonate composite, the PCC 6K G2 features a multifunction handgrip with controls for recording, ISO, WB and shutter angle.

Blackmagic says that the larger 6144 x 3456 Super 35 sensor has been designed to reduce thermal noise allowing for cleaner shadows and higher ISO.

The camera also features an EF lens mount allowing for the use of larger EF photographic lenses that capable of producing more cinematic looking images with a shallower depth of field.

Blackmagic’s OS allows operators to use simple tap and swipe gestures to adjust settings, add metadata and view recording status via the large touch screen monitor on the back of the camera.

It also provides full control over advanced camera features such as on screen focus and exposure tools, 3D LUTs, HDR, metadata entry, timecode, Blackmagic RAW settings and more.

The camera’s 13 stops of dynamic range and dual native ISO up to 25,600 means it will capture stunning footage in just about any lighting conditions.

As with the other PCC 6K models the PCC 6K G2 can shoot up to 60 fps or 120 fps windowed.

The generation 5 colour science is the same as found on the higher end URSA Mini Pro 12K camera, producing stunning, accurate skin tones and faithful colour.

It also utilizes a new dynamic 12-bit gamma curve that Blackmagic says is designed to capture more colour data in the highlights and shadows, to produce better looking images.

Blackmagic also says that the new colour science also handles some of the complex Blackmagic RAW image processing, preserving colour and dynamic range data from the sensor via metadata which can then be used in post production.

The optional viewfinder connects quickly to the camera via a single connector and features a high quality 1280 x 960 colour OLED display with built in proximity sensor, 4 element glass diopter and wide -4 to +4 focus adjustment.

It also boasts a built in digital focus chart to help with viewfinder focus setup as well as the ability to view critical status information such as frame guides.

The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K G2 uses a larger NP-F570 battery allowing for longer shooting times without needing to change or charge batteries.

There is also a locking DC power connector and the AC plug pack can power the camera and charge the battery simultaneously.

The USB-C expansion port can also trickle charge the battery, meaning operators can use portable battery packs, mobile phone chargers or laptops as power sources for recharging.

If that’s not enough, an optional battery grip adds extra batteries extending the power of the camera for longer shoots.

As with other Pocket Cinema Camera models, the PCC 6K G2 includes a full version of DaVinci Resolve Studio.
