The just-announced Tamron firmware update (Ver. 4) for the E-mount 150-500mm f/5-6.7 Di III VC VXD is great news for Sony shooters.
With this new firmware update, AF performance during zooming will be improved considerably and noticeably when you’re shooting videos and still images in AF-C mode.
Additionally, for those shooting with the α9 III, this lens will now support continuous shooting at up to 120 frames per second, approximately, when its focus mode is set to AF-S, DMF or MF. Unfortunately, however, continuous autofocus (AF-C) still can’t be used at this high-speed frame rate.
The AF assist function has also been updated.
This is a welcome development, since telephoto zooms of this calibre are notorious for struggling to keep their focus precise whenever the focal length shifts.
With a length of just 209.6mm and a maximum diameter of 93mm, the relatively compact 150-500mm f/5-6.7 ultra-telephoto zoom is designed to enable comfortable handheld shooting with a major emphasis on image quality.
Visit Tamron’s official support page to execute this Version 4 firmware update. Once your lens has been updated to the latest version, you won’t be able to revert to previous firmware versions.
