In an exciting development for photographers and content creators, Profoto has announced its new firmware update that makes their flash systems compatible with Sony’s revolutionary a9 III global shutter camera.
The new firmware update for Profoto flash systems opens up a world of creative possibilities for photographers using Sony’s a9 III global shutter camera, offering the ability to achieve flawless flash synchronization at unprecedented speeds—up to 1/80,000s.
With this update, photographers can now capture fast-moving subjects with unprecedented clarity and precision, with the ability to freeze action at high speeds allowing them to create dramatic and impactful images that were once virtually impossible to achieve.
Whether you’re looking to eliminate ambient light during daylight shoots or capture fast-moving subjects with exquisite clarity, this update provides the tools to push your creative boundaries further than ever before.

Moreover, this technology empowers photographers to have complete control over ambient light, even in broad daylight, allowing users to “shape light” exactly as they envision, regardless of the shooting conditions.
Profoto says that the system works out of the box, requiring minimal setup. Simply set the flash to Freeze mode, and you’re ready to go. And with automatic TTL exposure for rapid setup and seamless transitions between TTL and Manual mode, photographers will have the flexibility to fine-tune their lighting as needed.
Availability
Firmware updates for the Profoto A10, D30, Pro-D3, and Pro-B3 are available now.
Important note: In order to make use of the updated flash synchronization for the D30, the Pro-D3 and the Pro-B3 they need to be triggered by an updated A10.
