The Canon EOS C70 is getting a firmware update that will be available sometime in March of this year.
If you aren’t familiar with it, Canon’s EOS C70 is a compact Super 35mm, 4K cinema camera that combines the best of its cinema EOS features with SLR-like ergonomics. It was also Canon’s first ever RF-Mount Cinema Camera.
When it was released, the EOS C70 boasted features such as vertical operation for social media, a multifunction grip with three dials and a joystick, plus a built-in motorized ND system and is capable of recording 4K video at 120 fps and 2K at 180 fps, with 16-plus stops of dynamic range.
The firmware update will add a couple of new features including the ability to record 12-bit 4K RAW internally (to compatible SD Cards) in Canon’s Cinema RAW Light format as well as the ability to record XF-AVC proxies at the same time.
Cinema RAW Light is compatible with Proxy and Double-Slot recording.
It also adds a couple of new recording modes, Time and Frame and Interval Recording providing more recording options for the EOS C70.
The addition of Time and Frame and Interval Recording allows for easy creation of stop motion and time-lapse sequences when recording in the XF-AVC and MP4 formats.
For stop motion capture, Time and Frame recording mode captures a user-defined number of frames with every press of the record button.
Whereas, Interval Recording mode will set the interval and number of frames to be captured during time-lapse sequences.
