A new free photo sharing service now allows Twitter users to easily upload photos and have them automatically published & turned into tweets on Twitter. Yes, yes… another 2.0 user generated content site. But this one – tweetPhoto – is a real amalgam of previously existing sites. For want of a better description, imagine Flickr and Facebook and Twitter all rolled into one.
The site launched April 30 and encorporates many of the features utlized by other photosharing sites (mobile uploads, image tagging, geotagging etc.) and throws in the handy social networking features of Twitter and Facebook Connect (which allows you to filter through the people you follow on Twitter to find your Facebook Friends and, in turn, publishes to your Facebook account any photos you upload to tweetPhoto.)
With tweetPhoto, you can:
- Upload photos by email, mobile or web
- See who viewed any photo
- Favorite or retweet any photo
- Have your photos automatically geo-tagged
- Filter photos by Twitter or Facebook friends
- Automatically publish photos to Facebook
- Search photos and see trending tags

How is this different from twitpic.com?
Good question. The folks at Mashable.com explain it quite nicely, so I’ll paraphrase for the sake of simplicity.
Obviously, TweetPhoto isn’t the first competitor to enter the realm of Twitter photos (there’s also been Pix.im, yFrog and Twixtr). And TweetPhoto does work similarly to TwitPic in that you use your Twitter name/password to use the site. It supports uploads by email or mobile, and allows comments. But that’s pretty much it.
With TweetPhoto you can post photos to Twitter and Facebook, ‘favorite’ other photos on the site, see who’s viewing their photos, track stats, geo-tag (which is actually an automatic feature if you have a GPS-enabled phone), moderate comments, search all photos by tags, and even sort photos by Twitter or Facebook friends.
The other big difference is the dashboard. With twitpic you get a bit of a clunky and awkward interface. With TweetPhoto things are a bit more streamlined and easy to use. Features are easily accessible and discoverable from your dashboard view of photos hosted on the site. Tabs across the top navigation make it easy to view your photos, return to favorites, browse friends’ photos, and check out the public stream.
Hope this helps!
Yes, I saw that one too, but I would recommend checking out Twitc.com (launched in late April) for photo sharing. It also lets you do videos, web videos from all the popular sites, and documents. Mashable just ranked them #3 for video sharing. I rank them #1 for professional photo sharing.
