The newly redesigned next-gen Fujifilm Instax Mini Evo 2 hybrid instant camera capitalizes on the success of the popular original while introducing enhancements to make this any easy purchasing decision for anyone still sitting on the fence.

Let’s face it: the Instax Mini Evo already had a lot going for it.
Unlike conventional instant cameras, it doesn’t force you to waste expensive film on subpar or undesirable photos but rather stores each shot digitally and lets you pick and choose only the ones you want to print out.
It’s a very clever kind of hybrid camera that blurs the line between a tactile old-school instant film experience and contemporary digital convenience.
And it doesn’t hurt that it packs these cutting-edge features into a handsome retro-style body replete with analogue dials.
The first thing you’ll probably notice is the expanded LCD touchscreen on the back – the first touch panel in the Instax line – now spanning a generous 4.5 inches over the previous three. That’s a smart move, because this is where the magic happens, from composing and previewing your shot to adjusting settings and more.

And now you’ve got a helpful new feature called Expanded View that offers a wider field of view than the shooting area, so you can see more of the scene and compose your shot accordingly with greater ease. There’s even a handy on-screen framing guide.
Immersive Movie is another interesting new feature that captures four full seconds leading up to each shot. Inspired by technology built for the Instax Mini Evo Cinema camera, it lets you create short video clips alongside your still photos to document behind-the-scenes memories and candid moments.
(These video clips are completely silent, by the way, and because movie files can’t be saved to the limited internal memory, you’ll need to have a card inserted to activate this mode.)
As with the original, 10 lens effects combine with 10 film effects to create 100 unique visual styles, from soft nostalgic to bold and vibrant.
Tactile controls, including the lens dial and film dial, remain unchanged too, as does the analogue-style print lever that’s a big part of this instant camera experience.
Nothing beats the sensation of seeing a tangible glossy 2×3-inch image emerging, in vivid colours and crisp 600 dpi resolution, delivered either straight from the camera’s internal memory or from a removeable SD card, in real time at your fingertips, right before your eyes.
Because it acts as a portable smartphone printer, you’re not limited to printing what you shoot on the device. Download the free Instax Mini Evo app and pair your smartphone to the camera via Bluetooth, select any photo from your phone’s camera roll and send it to the device to print.
