Fujifilm has just launched the Instax Square 2, a next-gen analogue instant camera that introduces some fun new features, including a mood filter switch and innovative shooting modes, along with a refreshed body design. Here are the details.
Mood Filter Switch
The Square 2 adds an integrated switch with two colour filters: Warm to impart a slightly golden tone and Cool for a somewhat bluer cast. There’s also an Off setting to revert to the classic Instax look.
Shooting/Focus Modes
It also features intuitive twist-to-operate lens controls with three separate focus/shooting modes: Landscape (spanning 3m to infinity); Standard (for 0.5m to 3m); and Close-up (for 0.3m to 0.5m).
By contrast, the original SQ1 offered simpler operation with no dedicated landscape mode.
Power Source
Instead of using two customized CR2 lithium batteries like the original, the new Square 2 runs on four standard AA batteries, making them easier and cheaper to replace.
Body Design & Colours
Ironically, the Square 2 features a less boxy, more rounded silhouette, and it also comes in three new colour options: Slate Blue, Misty White and Brick Red.
New Film Option
Like the original, the Square 2 is compatible with the 1:1 square film format unique to the series. Along with the new camera, Fujifilm is also launching a brand-new film choice called Instax Square Soft Haze.
Complementing the moody new filters, it offers reduced saturation and contrast with warmer highlights and diffused shadows.
