The new Insta360 X6 is smaller and more pocketable than the X5, but it comes equipped with an impressive array of improvements, including 8K 50 fps 360 video, 10-bit colour depth and I-Log with Dolby Vision for pro-level colour grading.
It seems like just yesterday that Insta360 introduced the X5 (actually, it was more than a year ago), and it boasted a slate of modest-seeming enhancements over its immediate predecessor.
But these incremental advances have proved a winning formula for Insta360’s popular X series of 360-degree action cams, and the X6 appears to be no exception.
The addition of 8K 360-degree recording at 50 fps is definitely a major step forward, especially useful when capturing fast-action sports, and 10-bit colour depth is a considerable boon to high-end creative professionals who demand extreme visual precision.
Insta360 X6 upgrades from the dual 1/1.28-inch sensor used in the X5 to a larger 1-inch equivalent sensor, allowing for better light gathering, cleaner low-light performance and expanded dynamic range.

The overall body redesign seems another notable departure from previous models. Visibly shorter and somewhat wider than the X5 at about 10cm x 5cm, the newer model even bears a slight resemblance to DJI’s Osmo 360.
It’s also less than 4cm thick and weighs about 195g. The touchscreen is positioned just below the rear lens, with an OLED display reaching up to 1200 nits of brightness to improve visibility under direct sunlight.
Battery life lasts for up to 140 minutes when recording 8K 30 fps 360° video, with internal storage clocking in at 47GB.
Additional new features include Replaceable Lenses 2.0 (an update to the swappable lens system originally found on the X5), and with noticeably improved waterproofing, the X6 is now submersible to depths of up to 20m.
