The new DJI Osmo Mobile 8P performs as a premium pro-level alternative to the OM 8 and serves as the logical next step in the ongoing evolution of the smartphone gimbal series alternatively known by its abbreviated acronym, OM.
We recently witnessed a similar progression and process with the OM 7 and 7P models, but a couple of standout features make the OM 8P something altogether different from its slightly less capable and somewhat more affordable counterpart.

The biggest and best difference is the all-new removable display module, which also doubles as a remote control. The Osmo FrameTap remote control features a magnetic quick-release design and can be easily attached to or detached from the gimbal handle.
The remote screen mirrors the view from your phone or Multifunctional Module 2, automatically framing subjects with detection boxes.
This is a huge advantage, allowing you not only to frame shots and control settings but also to operate the gimbal from a distance. This is an absolute boon to solo creators, imparting greater creative freedom when not using the device strictly handheld.
You can also adjust the Multifunctional Module 2’s fill light directly from the Osmo FrameTap, with eight brightness levels and eight colour-temperature settings to choose from.

The other big difference: the OM 8P is equipped with ActiveTrack 8.0. With this new and improved tracking system, it boasts better subject recognition, now with the ability to follow people, animals, vehicles and various other moving subjects more easily.
At time of writing, the OM 8P is available in three kit variations:
Standard Combo
A standalone unit without the DJI OM Multifunctional Module 2. This is considered the entry version.
Advanced Tracking Combo
This includes the DJI OM Multifunctional Module 2, which provides enhanced tracking capability.
Creator Combo
This one comes with both the DJI OM Multifunctional Module 2 and the new Mic Mini 2. It’s designed for creator-focused use cases.
