The versatile new SmallRig RF 20C portable LED video light packs a powerful punch and is full of pleasant surprises. Featuring a focusable high-brightness beam, it’s ideal for small content-creator teams.
SmallRig is probably best known for its modular camera cages and rigging systems built for independent filmmakers, photographers and content creators.
But they’re also known for thinking outside the box and coming up with some pretty original and innovative designs separate from their main product line.
Remember the SmallRig L10 desklamp? The new RF 20C is another case in point.
Designed to provide key light, outdoor fill and Gobo projections, the 20W RF 20C follows the earlier 10W RF 10C portrait fill light and the 5W RF 05B desktop macro light.
All three are small enough to be used handheld, but they also feature multiple ¼”-20 threaded holes for stable and secure mounting options.
Along with its constant 20W output and high-intensity light – 5400 lux @ 1m – you’ve also got five colour LEDs (red, 5600K white, purple, orange or cyan) to work with, and a variable beam angle that can be adjusted smoothly from 24° (spot) to 60° (flood) just by sliding the push-pull plano-convex lens.

You can add some cool atmospheric effects with any of the included 20 Gobos that are designed to snap on magnetically and work seamlessly with the five LED colours to project custom patterns onto your set or subject.
At just 200mm in length and weighing only 520g, the compact RF 20C fits easily into a purse or pocket. The CNC-machined aluminum-alloy body not only serves as a heat sink, but the internal cooling system also uses a 27db high-speed fan for sustained output.
The built-in dual 5000 mAh-capacity batteries deliver up to an hour and a half of runtime at full power (up to three in typical use) and can be charged via USB-C passthrough even while in use.
