Panasonic has just launched the new Lumix FZ80DK, a budget-friendly “bridge” camera that straddles the distance between a lightweight point-and-shoot and a more complex DSLR. It’s the perfect choice for anyone itching to advance from the former but not ready to leap into the interchangeable-lens camera market just yet.
The FZ80DK packs some hefty features into its compact body, all at an affordable price. To be fair, it’s not exactly new. The FZ80DK is actually an update to the original FZ80, which was launched back in 2017 and recently discontinued. The newer model boasts some noteworthy upgrades while retaining some of the best features of the original, including its highly capable superzoom lens.
With a full-frame equivalence of 20-1200mm, the Lumix DC Vario 60x zoom lens makes this camera the perfect choice for capturing everything from highly detailed macro-style close-ups to distant birds and wildlife. That versatile lens is really what sets this camera apart.
The FZ80DK uses Panasonic’s reliable POWER O.I.S. technology to help reduce image blur, essential for handheld shooting with such an expansive zoom range. It’s no match, however, for the leader of the superzoom pack: Nikon’s Coolpix P1000, which reigns supreme with a whopping 3000mm optical zoom powerful enough to bring the surface of the moon within reach.

Enhancements to the FZ80DK include an improved electronic viewfinder – now glare-resistant with nearly double the resolution of its predecessor at 2.36 million dots – and a sharper rear LCD with 1.84 million dots. The new model also provides a handy USB-C port in lieu of the former’s outdated micro-USB.
A cool new Post Focus function lets you to choose a focal point on your image after the shot has been taken, thanks to built-in cutting-edge multi-shot tech. And for those shooting video, the FZ80DK not only delivers impressive 4K-quality video – you can also select an 8MP photo from your footage using the new 4K Photo feature.
